The anime adaptation of Chainsmoker Cat has finally arrived on Netflix! Here’s our review of the first episode.

Episode 1: “Nya-nyanyan”

The premiere episode delivers exactly what fans of the manga expected: chaos, comedy, and surprisingly heartfelt moments.

Animation Quality

Bibury Animation Studios has done an excellent job bringing Yaniko and her world to life. The animation is:

• Fluid during action sequences
• Expressive during comedic moments
• Detailed in character designs

Voice Acting

The voice cast is spot-on:

• Yuko Natsuyoshi as Yaniko captures the character’s desperate, lovable energy
• Rina Honnizumi as Imoko provides the perfect straight-man contrast
• The supporting cast rounds out the ensemble nicely

Standout Moments

1. Yaniko’s introduction scene is perfect
2. The hazmat suit sequence is hilariously animated
3. The cat-girl world-building is well-integrated

Some Concerns

• Pacing is a bit rushed compared to the manga
• Some of the darker jokes have been softened
• The cigarette depiction (while unflattering) is still present
